Chantal Mayer is from Howick in the Kwa-Zulu Natal midlands.
She studied B.A. Fine Arts (Creative Jewellery Design and Manufacture)
at the University of Stellenbosch and later attained her honours
degree (cum laude). She went on to lecture for three years at her
alma mater in jewellery design and manufacture.
Chantal has since worked as an independent goldsmith in the Cape, where she also
had a jewellery studio/gallery called b’jewel’d. The Midlands
beckoned her back though. So in 2003 she returned to Howick, where she set up
shop on the farm Tumble Downs on the Curry’s Post Road, trading
as Chantal Mayer, a member of The Midlands Meander.
Chantal has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions and has had pieces made up
for De Beers, Angloplat and Absolut Vodka. In 2001
she won a De Beers Shining Light Award. Recently she has made pieces
for Kirsten Goss London.
In her endeavours, Chantal strives for perfection when it is called for yet fully
appreciates the beauty of ‘imperfection’- which she cherishes and
celebrates as the true African spirit. |
