Fundamentals of Jewellery Lost Wax Casting

I cover the necessary steps that the typical casting process entails over an intensive 5-day (8am – 5pm) course.

We will be dealing with the following areas:
* model making from completely combustible materials e.g. wax
* model making from semi-combustible materials e.g. paper
* sprueing and construction of the casting ‘tree’
* calculation of the amount of metal required
* preparation and pouring of the investment mould
* burnout process in the kiln
* smelting and pouring of the metal into the mould
* vacuum-assist casting method
* quenching, desprueing and working-off methods
* Room Temperature Vulcanising (RTV) molds (cold molding)
* vulcanised moulds (hot molding)

The casting course is R6500 per student. This is a private or semi-private course as I can only take up to 2 students per course.

This price includes: 40 hours of personal tuition; consumables; materials (the metal used will be brass/bronze**); notes; tea/coffee.

You take home with you the items that you cast and the rubber moulds that you make during the course.

Lunch is not included in the course so please feel free to bring your own (sandwich or whatever).

I require a deposit of 50% of the course fee in order to secure your booking and the balance is payable 7 days before the course starts.

** Due to silver having doubled in price over recent months, and due to the large amount that we need in order to cast, I no longer offer sterling silver as an option in stead of brass/bronze. Should you really want to produce your pieces in silver, you would be required to provide your own (since one needs at least around 400 – 500 g for a single casting ‘tree’, this could amount to at least R4000 extra).
